We call them Powder Brows because when they heal they look like softly applied Powder eyebrow makeup.
— Haiku Ink

What are Powder Eyebrows?

Powder Style eyebrows are a form of permanent makeup aka cosmetic tattoos which results in a soft, powdery, filled-in look. I use a specially calibrated tattoo machine and disposable, factory sterilized tattoo needles to create transparent layers of color until the desired saturation is achieved.

Yes it is a tattoo. But it is much softer and much more gentle than a body tattoo.

Clients love this service because it doesn’t look like a tattoo once it is healed. It is undetectable, natural, and the best investment you’ll make for yourself. The only regret my clients ever express is that they waited so long to make the decision!

It is actually the procedure that I chose for my own eyebrows as I have oily skin that is quite fair and very light natural eyebrow hairs. No one has ever guessed that mine are tattoos and they are always shocked that I did them myself too!

This procedure does require maintenance over the years as the color will soften and lighten over time. Haiku Ink Powder Brow clients typically reach out every 2-3 years for a touchup appointment to refresh the overall color and shape.

Powder Brows have gone by different names in our industry for many decades : Powder Brows, Microshading, Micropigmentation, Semi-Permanent Brows, Ombre Brows, Powder Ombre, Shaded. It’s all the same thing.

Were you dead-set on Microblading though?

Do not be scared of Powder Brows. This is the most natural looking and longest lasting eyebrow service available.

Haiku Ink does not offer Microblading, Combo, or ‘Nano’ Hairstroke Eyebrows as these techniques do not offer natural looking longterm healed results.

Before You Book Brows :

  1. Skincare : This is key. If you are using anything with any anti-aging claims then you must discontinue it. This is a non-exhaustive list of ingredients you will discontinue for 6 weeks : Retinol, Vitamin A Palmitate, Retinal, Vitamin C, Retinoic Acid, bakuchiol, Gluconolactone, Tretinoin, retinyl palmitate, retinaldehyde, isotretinoin, adapalene, tazarotene, alitretinoin, and bexarotene, alpha Hydroxy acids, AHA, glycolic acid and lactic acid, hydroxycaprylic acid, and hydroxycapric acid.

This is not a FULL List and cosmetic ingredients go by many name and change all the time.

  2. Because your skincare does affect the healing and the outcome, please be 10000% honest about listing every single product you use, even occasionally, even once or twice a month, even if it’s a prescription. You will be asked about the Brand and the actual product name. If in doubt, text 443-228-8617 and we can discuss what you are currently using.

  3. Botox : You need a 2 week buffer, before or after your brow appointment to let the muscles settle after Botox, Dysport, or any other forehead wrinkle-relaxing neuromodulator injections.

  4. Laser treatments, chemical peels, facials, microneedling, PRP, injections, fillers - Your skin needs to rest. You will need 4 weeks of healing before you can schedule your brow appointment. Do not schedule any of these treatments between your first and second appointment sessions.

  5. Brow Tint, Brow Henna, Brow Lamination : You must not have any tint left on the skin at all. Minimum of 2 weeks.

  6. Waxing/Threading : 1 week before is minimum to allow skin to heal. You may wax if you prefer it and are used to it, but please don’t try a new shape or a new person before your appointment in case they make dramatic changes that will affect our work together.

  7. Alcohol : Do not consume alcohol 72 hours before your appointment

  8. ** COVID-19 Vaccination** Important Timing Information - If you are vaccinated or are planning to have any booster shots, please schedule Permanent Makeup appointments a minimum of 2 weeks after your final vaccination. Brows Aftercare Healing

  1. Be gentle when washing - Permanent Makeup is a Tattoo and it is an open wound for the first few days. You must be soft when washing and rinsing.

  2. Wash your hands before your even consider touching your face. Don’t touch or cleanse until you have washed your hands.

  3. Avoid getting your face wet in the shower. Just keep your face out of the stream of water. Wash your body first then wash you hair with your head tilted back. Don’t wash the rest of your face in the shower. Blot you face gently with a clean unused towel after your shower.

  4. Remove your face makeup with makeup remover and wash the rest of your face by rubbing in your cleaner, avoid the eyebrows, and then wipe off your cleanser with a damn cloth. You must avoid rubbing all of your makeup and debris into your fresh eyebrows.

  5. Do not put any creams or lotions or skincare serums on your fresh eyebrows until after all of the flakes are gone on their own.

  6. If you pick any of the flakes or scabs, or if they get soggy from the shower or being sweaty and they get dislodged too soon, you will be taking ink out of the tattoo and your eyebrows will heal patchy. You may also actually damage the skin itself.

  7. You can use hydrating skincare again on your eyebrows once all of the scabbing is gone.

  8. Do not use any skincare that contains active anti-aging ingredients (Retinol, Glycolic acids, Retinyl, Retin-A, Differin, Vitaminc C, Lactic Acids etc.) above the cheekbones until AFTER your touchup is healed. After the touchup is healed (4 weeks) then you can use these products above the cheekbones but please do not apply them directly to the healed permanent makeup. They can prematurely fade and lighten them.

  9. Blotting gently the first 24 hours is important. Dampen a cotton round pad with cool water and press gently on your brows to soak up any fluid. This prevents a thick chunky scab from forming. Thick scab = less color retained.

  10. Your fresh brows are susceptible to sunburns and sun damage regardless of your skin tone. Avoid the sun if possible the first 7 days, but if you must be outside then please wear a hat with a brim to protect them. After all the flaking is finished, please know that they are still vulnerable and wear sunblock and a hat with a brim if possible.

  11. Daily sunscreen or sunblock is important to maintain your investment. The more sun the Permanent Makeup receives, the more likely they are to color shift, fade faster, or fade patchy. SPF in your makeup or moisturizer is not enough. A separate 30 SPF or higher is recommended.
